A Very Good First Year Production Colt Medium Frame Lightning Magazine Slide Action Rifle Serial Number 1778 For 1884.

26 inch octagonal barrel. 38-40 WCF centerfire caliber.

The barrel with original bluing fading to brown. Bright original blue on rear sight. The frame with 40% original bright blue and very crisp rampant Colt. Hammer with fading casehardening. Triggerguard is mostly gray steel. Some original bluing remaining on trigger. Buttplate patinated with minor damage at extreme toe of walnut stock but is full dimension with 65% original varnish.

Checkered fore-end with minor wear to checkering and some original varnish. Crisp undamaged screw heads. The action is crisp and the bore rates excellent plus especially for a first year production Lightning.

A fine example of one of Colt’s few late 19th century rifles.
