A Fine Manhattan Navy Percussion Revolver Serial Number 57239.
6 and 1/2 inch octagonal barrel. .36 caliber.
Lighter than its competitor, the Colt 1851 Navy, and offering a heavier caliber than the Colt 1849 Pocket, the Manhattan Navy was quite successful with 78,000 manufactured. Serial 57239 is a particularly good example. The barrel retains 75% thinning original blue finish with some real bright blue. The loading lever shows most of the graying casehardening. Cylinder with 100% scene and 65% original blue mixing with light patina.
Frame with much graying casehardening, Screw heads are fine throughout. Clean brass triggerguard and backstrap. Forcing cone still has most of its blue. Select walnut grip retains 95% original varnish with only some minor wear at extreme bottom along the edges. The action is crisp and tight as a new revolver. The bore is good with some corrosion but very sharp lands and grooves.
Overall a very fine condition example of this most attractive Civil War era revolver.
