An American Half Stock Long Plains Rifle with the barrel marked "J. Hayden Oxford Ohio" and "Francis Kapp Somerville Ohio."
This is a real Plains Rifle that weighs more than ten pounds with a single edged deeply rifled .50 caliber barrel. The back action lock is marked "L C & L Cincinnati."
The select curly maple wood is generally in very good condition and very attractive. It has a double set trigger with a lock that does need some adjustment. There is a stable crack that runs from the forward section of the lock plate to the forward barrel tang, and there is some wood putty fill to the right of the barrel tang. The ramrod is a replacement.
This real Plains Rifle would make an excellent addition to a collection of 19th Century rifles.
