A Very Fine Continental Open Burgonet Of Good Weight And Elegant Form Circa 1600.

The well forged one piece skull with medium high comb decorated with roped design. The wide brim with fine roped border secured with decorative large brass headed rivets. Large cheek flaps ornamented with large decorative brass headed rivets ensuite with the brim. Single piece cheek and neck lames decorated with large brass rivets ensuite with all the other securing rivets. Nasal screw is original of the period (nasal absent).

Condition throughout is excellent and delamination is apparent. Interior showing great age and marks from the master armourer’s are present. Weight is six pounds.

This is in every respect a rarity as it is entirely homogenous with all elements of the period.
