A Good Homogenous Continental Swept Hilt Rapier Circa 1620.
38 and 1/2 inch diamond shape stout rapier blade with 9 and 3/4 inch narrow single fullers. The fullers stamped “IHS: for Iesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus savior of mankind) and “MARIA”. The blade fits properly and is in overall good condition. The hilt of good quality and classic form with three bars on the obverse and lovely delicate double circles on reverse.
Wood grip bound with fine twisted steel wire surmounted by original elaborate steel “Turk’s Heads” Globose pommel of good form and weight. Rapier balances perfectly and this sword appears to have never been dismounted.
45 and 1/2 inches overall. A very handsome, genuine of the period rapier in good overall condition.
