A Scarce Spanish Dish Hilt Rapier Circa 1645 With Elaborate Pierced And Engraved Dish.
34 and 3/4 inch six sided blade with short single fuller of 6 and 1/4 inches. Blade is signed within the fullers “ADRIT” on the obverse and “MADRIT” sic (Madrid). The large dish is well pierced and engraved with acanthus foliage.
Single quillion with roped design and roped knuckle guard ensuite. Grip bound with twisted steel wire surmounted by brass “Turk’s Heads”. Globose pommel engraved with strapwork.
41 and 3/4 inches overall. Sword with excellent balance and appears homogenous and entirely original of the period. A most attractive and unusual Spanish rapier.
