A Large And Impressive Early 17th Century Swept Hilt Rapier The Hilt And Pommel Ensuite And Of Unusually Fine Design Circa 1615.

The 37 and 7/8th inch long diamond shaped six sided blade with long central flat and short fuller filled with cabalistic symbols surmounted by a cross. Stamped on both sides of the ricasso with indecipherable maker’s mark. The blade in good clean condition throughout. The swept hilt of classic form with expanded reeded quillions and beautifully reeded branches. Diminutive pierced counter plate. The wood grip bound with twisted steel wire surmounted with well executed steel “Turk’s Heads”. The large ovoid pommel with finely reeded pommel en suite with the hilt.

This large rapier balances perfectly and is in fine original condition throughout. Doubtless once the pride of a Continental nobleman and now this impressive 17th century sword can grace the wall of a sword aficionado.
