A Rare And Highly Desirable Swiss Lion Pommel Saber Circa 1645.
The 33 inch long blade with long, narrow single fuller is a full 1 and 3/8th inches wide at forte. Flat spine as is characteristic of these rare swords. Two branch steel hilt with finely pierced guard. The hilt engraved throughout with foliate decoration. Walnut grip panels held by single steel “Turk’s Heads". Splendid well forged lion head pommel with unusually fine detail.
Blade is stained and patinated but generally good condition overall. The hilt engraving with expected wear but showing careful use. This is a classic Schweitzer saber and will delight the sophisticated collector of 17th century sword varieties. 39 and 1/2 inches overall.
