A Very Fine And Rare Koto Period Japanese Samurai Sword O’Tanto Shortened From A Wakizashi With Magnificent Period Dragon Horimono In Plush Kinko Koshirae Circa 1550.
12 and 1/4 inch hira tsukuri blade with double hi and superbly executed dragon horimono extending into the nakago. The nakago with three mekugi ana and excellent untouched chocolate patination. Exuberant midare hamon in fine nie and nioi, nashiji hada sprinkled throughout with ji nie. The quality of the blade commensurate with the excellent horimono. No kizu, shintetsu, or shingane. The quality of the hi is excellent.
Solid silver ‘cat scratched’ habaki. Shakudo rimmed oval copper tsuba with katakiri engraving and silver shell. Dark shakudo nanako fuchi kashira with gold shells and gold seaweed flourishes. Shakudo and gold kiri mon menuki. Extra fine shakudo bordered copper nanako kozuka with gold and dark shakudo fish. Signed kozuka blade.
The elegant saya executed in very fine same with horn koiguchi, kojiri, kurikata, and sekigane. The blade of such quality that it should be sent for shinsa.
