A Superb Unsigned Choshu Or Bushu School Japanese Samurai Katana Tsuba Circa 1820.

The lovely iron plate is 2 and 3/4 inches in diameter. The conception of design is utterly brilliant consisting of two flying geese carved in the round with incredibly detailed fletching on the wings. The geese fly over a rocky landscape and leafy foliage with gold highlights and a finely pierced sky.

The delicacy and quality of the piercing is of the very highest quality. A masterpiece sukashi tsuba would be recognized by a tsuba shi as to the maker just as would a masterpiece unsigned katana, wakizashi, or tanto.

The overall condition is fine with good russet patination. One of the most beautiful and best designed sukashi tsuba we have had the privilege to offer.
