An Attractive Ito No Maki Mounted Japanese Shinto Samurai Sword Katana; The shinnogi tsukuri blade Circa 1670 The Koshirae Meiji.
23 and 3/4 inch blade, 2 shaku, 60 cm. Active ko-midare canon with ashi. Blade in fair state of polish with scratches and staining more evident in the midsection. Gilt washed copper habaki. Mumei suriage nakago with three mekugi-ana. Full court ito-no-maki tachi mounts with plain sentoku fuchi kashira, black stained same. sentoku fish menuki, and brown silk tsuka-makie.
Saya is beautiful nashiji reddish lacquer with all silk intact, elaborate sage, five well executed Tokugawa mon in gold hiramakie all in fine overall condition with little wear to lacquer. Good lobate, Namban style iron dragon tsuba, finely pierced, the dragons with gold nunome.
This is no tourist tachi but a handsomely mounted samurai sword that would look great on anyone’s tachi kakei.
