4 inch barrel. .31 caliber. Period inscribed and absolutely genuine on the butt “W.L. Gamage”. We have examined hundreds of inscribed Colts and all too many are either modern inscriptions or old commemorative family, engraved name of an ancestor. Steel parts are patinated and uncleaned. All matching numbers except the wedge.
Grips show carrying by Dr. Gammage, The action is good and the bore rates fair. This incredibly historical Confederate Colt revolver is a real prize that would be a most important acquisition for the Confederate collector, the Colt collector, or the Civil War collector. Included is a reprint of Dr. Gammage’s THE CAMP, THE BIVOUAC AND THE BATTLE FIELD.
