Round barrel with raised central rib and breech section chiseled in low relief with acanthus foliage. The rib with “VS’ initials. The stepped lock with bridled frizzen is engraved with intricate scrollwork. The gooseneck hammer engraved ensuite. Brass mounts are cast and chased with scrollwork. Spurred buttcap with skulcrusher finial.
Dark walnut full stock relief carved throughout its length with scrollwork and silver wire inlay at wrist. Condition of pistol shows considerable wear throughout but no severe losses. Silver thumb piece probably a replacement. Mainspring is so strong we were reluctant to cock it.
An attractive example of this well known type and considerably better example than average quality. This is a genuine early 19th century Ottoman flintlock pistol not to be confused with the Grand Bazaar pistols one sees.
