An Unusual, Fine And Scarce Colt Model 1861 Richards Mason Conversion Revolver Serial Number 21435 For 1864.

7 and 1/2 inch barrel. .36 caliber centerfire. This 1861 Navy was one sent back to the Colt Factory by a private party for conversion which is why the serial number is much higher than commonly found on these scarce revolvers.

With a total factory production estimated by Sutherland at only 2200 all 1861 Navy conversions are scarce. Finished in nickel the barrel retains 60% original bright nickel finish with light address expected after factory conversion. Cylinder with excellent scene retains 35% original nickel. Frame with 2 line patent markings has 75% original nickel. Brass triggerguard and backstrap with traces of original silver. Bright case colors on the sides of the hammer.

All numbers match except for unnumbered wedge and cylinder numbered 777 and under that 435 which matches the loading gate which is numbered 1435. Walnut grips are full dimension with no original finish but fine condition properly numbered in the channel 1435 in pencil. Even the screws retail some original niter bluing.

With a fine bore and crisp action this is a real winner.
