A Splendid Gold Damascene Decorated Mid 19th Century All Steel Persian Dagger “Kard” With Superb Black Damascus Blade Circa 1845.
The 8 inch single edged tapered blade with elegant ladder Damascus pattern. The spine is particularly beautiful with central ridge flanked by two outside ridges terminating in a relief chiseled urn at forte. Ricasso with heavy gold Damascene. The hilt of watered steel is rounded with top and bottom flats extensively Damascened in rich gold Arabesque patterns. The closure for the hidden compartment completely Damascened in gold with blossoms and leaves.
12 and 1/4 inches overall. Condition is very fine with only minor losses to gold Damascening.
There are dozens of modern copies of this variety of Kard however this one is genuine of the period and the only one we can guarantee. A very rare and beautiful dagger for the advanced collector of Islamic weapons or anyone who appreciates an excellent 19th century gold decorated dagger.
