A Very Fine And Attractive Indo-Persian Shamshir In Scabbard Circa 1790.
29 inch long deeply curved wootz Damascus blade. Beautiful silver Damascened rear blade sheath of fine quality. The right side with gold Damascene maker’s cartouche (slightly worn but legible). Heavy brass D-guard hilt the guard cast with a dragon where it meets the characteristic Persian style pommel. Palmate quillions.
This fine shamshir is complete with its original black leather covered wood scabbard and original chape, ,pocket, and central mount. The mounts of brass in good condition. The blade in good condition with some staining. The scabbard in good condition with expected wear to surface of the leather. The heavy brass hilt in fine condition.
At 34 inches overall out of scabbard this is a most impressive high quality shamshir that will add luster and importance to any collection of Indo-Persian edged weapons.
