A Good Spanish Cup Hilt Rapier Circa 1725, 36 inch stout diamond shape blade with central flat and 12 and 1/4 inch central fuller.
Within the fuller are cabalistic triple dots and signed indistinctly “Alabert (?) Hans:"
Plain steel cup with beautifully rolled deeply engraved rim. 13 and 1/2 inch long writhen quillions with chiseled trumpet finials. Fine copper wire bound waisted wood grip surmounted with writhen “Turk’s Heads” of one piece ensuite with the quillions. D-guard ensuite with the quillions, Dome shaped pommel writhen ensuite with the quliions, D-guard, and “Turk’s Heads”.
Condition overall is excellent for a rapier with no corrosion or damage apart from wear to the lettering in the fullers. 43 and 1/2 inches overall. A handsome, well balanced rapier at a most attractive price.
