A Fine, Powerful And Attractive Classic Continental Swept Hilt Rapier Circa 1625.
41 inch unusually stout rapier blade with 11 and 1/2 inch narrow fuller and diamond shape with central flat ahead of the fuller. Ricasso deeply struck with two blade smith’s marks “B” within the cartouche. Spatulate quillions are a full 11 inches across. Well forged branches and the D style guard with curle as it meets the pommel. Wood grip missing its wire binding and “Turk’s Heads” appears to be original. Finely forged barrel shaped pommel.
The entire rapier in remarkably good condition showing little wear and no pitting on blade; hilt or pommel. One of the highest rapiers we have seen in years and possibly never been dismounted. Despite its massive proportions this rapier balances perfectly.
50 and 1/2 inches overall and was doubtless worn by a tall man who desired a rapier that would withstand hard use in combat. If you are looking for a real combat rapier here is the sword for you
