A Good And Rare Renaissance Period German Peascod Form Breastplate Circa 1550.
Of classic peascod form. This fine element of genuine Renaissance armor is further enhanced by period line engraving indicative of its original owner being a gentleman of means and taste. The weight is 7 pounds. The breastplate has both of its original gussets. The engraved decoration is particularly attractive.
Condition is patinated with minor losses to the original skirt. The interior shows its more than 500 years of age with fine marks from the armorer’s hammer and a lovely deep untouched patina. This breastplate would be an integral component of a fine composite suit (most armors even in the great museums of Europe are composite) or it would look wonderful on the wall of a private armory.
Rarely offered for sale outside of an European auction and shipping costs would make acquisition of such a piece prohibitively expensive.
