A Good Ottoman Migulet Shishana Rifle With Very Fine 17th Century Barrel.
The 34 inch octagonal deeply rifled barrel relief chiseled at breech and muzzle. Copper foresight and high domed rear sight pierced with four sight apertures. The barrel of very fine Damascus with two deeply sunken Ottoman barrel makers marks. The lock of characteristic form with filed decoration.
The blackened full stock with hexagonal butt finely and elaborately inlaid with white and green stained bone in the Ottoman manner further enhanced with brass studs and enamel insets. Barrel is retained by 5 engraved and repousse silver capucines. Fore-end with 4 and 1/4 inch steel band and Morocco leather nose cap. Iron ramrod. Overall length 47 inches.
Condition of barrel deep age brown but Damascus pattern evident. Lock is rusted and hammer is loose. Stock is good with inlay in excellent condition and insignificant sliver missing at extreme left of fore-end.
The form on this Ottoman migulet gun is particularly elegant as it is longer than average. A good example with a barrel that could well have been at the 1683 Siege of Vienna.
