A Very Rare U.S. Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber Type 1, 2nd Contract By Schnitzler & Kirschbaum One Of Only 1000 Made Dated 1848.
The First U.S. Contract Artillery Saber. The ultra clean blade with original polish reserve at forte stamped on spine near hilt with a crown over “FG” date “48” and further proof crown over “G”.
The unpolished D-guard brass hilt is stamped on knuckle guard with crown over “G”. The leather covered wood grip is bound with twisted copper wire and is in excellent original condition.
The scabbard in good overall condition with three minor door dents, made originally without throat.
