A Really Good Basically Unmolested Colt Single Action Army Revolver Serial Number 23089 For 1876.
7 and 1/2 inch barrel. Caliber 45 Long Colt. All numbers match including cylinder. No number in the grip channel but fit and condition are an assurance that they are the grips that were on this SAA when it left Hartford in 1876.
Front sight original height. Barrel with good address and generous traces of bright original blue around the front sight. Much bright blue under the ejector rod housing. Correct donut ejector rod and base pin with the tiny hole in the front. Cylinder brown patina with some honest wear. Frame with excellent 2 line markings and some muted original casehardening at front. Trigger with hints of original blue. Hammer with strong traces of original casehardening colors. Backstrap and triggerguard with some bright original blue in protected areas.
Grip with 35% original varnish and some butt wear and one deliberate carved line on right with diamond, possibly a cattle brand. Fine bore and good action with the famous Colt 4 clicks. Screws are good. This is one of the better Colt SAA’s we have seen and unlike all too many no one has tried to “improve” it.
If you want a genuine Western expansion period Colt SAA that looks like it was “there” but well cared for then number 23089 is your huckleberry.
