A Rare and High Art Fine Silver and Gold Decorated Lacquer Stock Japanese Matchlock Pistol Circa 1850. Of museum or temple offering quality throughout. Heavy 7 inch round barrel 62 caliber is decorated throughout its length with a Tokugawa mon and an elaborate and finely executed dragon in silver and gold. Plain but elegant brass lock, serpent, fence, and pan cover. The full stock decorated with brown lacquer and three fine gold lacquered Tokugawa mon. Condition of silver and gold Damascene decoration is very fine with only minor rubbing at breech. The lacquered full stock is excellent with little wear. Brass lock and serpent polished bright. Serpent cocks. 11 and 1/2 inches overall. This is a work of art matchlock pistol that will be a centerpiece in any collection of Japanese tanegashima or ignition system collection. Priced well for the high art firearms aficionado.
