A Scarce English Double Barrel Side By Side Tap Action Box Lock Flintlock Overcoat Pistol By J & W Richards (Joseph and William, Birmingham 1799-1817).
3 and 5/8th inch round barrels. .44 caliber. The box lock frame with elegant line engraving signed “J&W Richards” and “London”. Tap action. Push on safety.
Double neck hammer with line engraving and original small parts. Gunmaker’s proofs on breeches. Good walnut slab butt with silver shield escutcheon engraved with owner’s initials “HR”. The action works crisply on both half and full cock. Quality replacement ramrod.
Side by side barrel tap action flintlocks are scarce as most are over under. A high quality British flintlock overcoat pistol. 9 inches overall.
