A Rare And Desirable Broad Arrow Marked English Brass Barrel Flintlock Military Blunderbuss By William J. Parker (working dates 1794-1841) Circa 1800.
15 and 1/2 inch round barrel. 1 and 1/4 inch bore. The barrel stamped “W.J. PARKER” with two gunmaker’s proofs. The plain bolted military style lock is stamped “W.J. PARKER” and a crown over broad arrow. Full brass military style mounts including plain triggerguard with stylized acorn finial, ramrod pipe, buttplate, and sideplate.
Figured walnut fullstock with raised carving around barrel tang. Brass tipped oak ramrod possibly the original. Barrel is handsome polished brass. Lock clean steel with sharp markings. Triggerguard with very old repair. Walnut fullstock is good overall condition with one tight crack on right side at toe that does not go through. The action is exceptionally strong on both half and full cock. The bore is good.
English military blunderbusses are rare and highly collectible. William Parker was “Gunmaker to H.R.H. the Duke of Kent” as well as being famous for his British police pistols and guns for the Hudson’s Bay Company.
