A Scarce And Desirable Full Silver Mounted Ottoman Yataghan Circa 1800.
20 and 1/4 inch yataghan blade struck with a good maker’s mark on the left side. The ricasso sheathed with 4 and 1/2 inch thick repousse silver panels. Silver grip bound with finely twisted silver wire. Classic ear style yataghan pommel in repousse silver. The hilt in good condition. The blade has areas of significant corrosion which could possibly be polished out. The tip has suffered the most from decades of being in the scabbard which is not uncommon.
The heavy 22 and 5/8th inch silver sheath is a work of some ancient silversmith’s art. Panels of banners in high relief and Ottoman helmets all amid florals and bordered by guilloche. Condition of the scabbard is excellent with no appreciable dents and is devoid of the cracks often seen in these. A most handsome and attractive yataghan
