A Beautiful Matched Pair Of High Art Brescian Flintlock Holster Pistols By Carlo Nicolino (1674-1730) Circa 1725.
12 and 1/2 inch blued octagonal to round “Spanish form” barrels. .60 caliber bores. The barrels inlaid with six engraved silver reserves on breech framing a raised relief silver portrait bust. Silver fore-sight. The bolted banana shaped lock inlaid with two engraved silver inlaid and signed on the bevel “C. NICOLIN”.
The swan neck hammer inlaid with engraved silver inlay. Engraved brass mounts including triggerguard with relief silver portrait bust. Elaborate brass thumb piece with relief male portrait bust. Fine spurred buttcap with portrait bust finial and two silver relief portrait busts on either side. Steel ramrods with threaded ends appear to be original to the pistols.
Highly figured walnut full stocks with classic Brescian relief carving. Long steel belt hooks, This is a very fine and attractive pair of Brescian pistols in good condition throughout with the expected minor repairs and one buttcap finial likely an old replacement. 18 and 1/2 inches overall.
Altogether a very handsome pair of long holster pistols by a well regarded maker.
