A Rare Civil War Period LeMat 9 Shot Percussion Revolver In Prime Confederate Usage Serial Range Number 1686 - All Matching.
6 and 3/4 inch octagonal barrel. .44 caliber and 16 gauge shotgun barrel. This fine example bears the full “Col LeMat Bte s d g d Paris” barrel address. Though heavily patinated from holstering, the barrel retains strong traces of original bright bluing. The cylinder has minor mars from use. The frame is smooth, crisp steel with engraved frame screw.
As with nearly all LeMat’s the loading lever is missing (most are replaced when present). All nine nipples are intact and not battered. The spring that retains the takedown rod is absent. The original walnut grips are stamped with a star and show minor wear to checkering with one negligible tight crack to top of left panel.
The action is crisp and most remarkable the drop down hammer for the shotgun barrel is original; these almost never are. The bore is good. This is a far better than usually offered LeMat in the prime serial number range and with the Paris address.
