A Plushly Dragon Mounted Japanese Shinto Period Samurai Sword O Tanto Signed Nagamitsu Circa 1740.
12 and 3/4 inch hira tsukuri blade with one long hi on the moot. Shallow midare temper with muji hada. The jigane with shintetsu and minor hakobore near the boshi. Cat scratched gilt habaki. Ubu nakago with niji mei Nagamitsu signature. Copper tsuba with variegated gold rim. Tsuka with fine gilt dragon fuchi , iron kashira with raised gold dragons. Fine dragon menuki affixed to a shibuichi babd, Beautiful old golden silk string wrap.
Fine well signed gilt, shakudo kozuka with gold dragon swallowing a gilt ken sword.Beautiful roiro red and black lacquer saya in excellent condition with finely carved iron dragon kojiri with gold highlights. Fine shakudo kurikata decorated with gold millet leaves ensuite with shakudo and gilt kaeshizuno.
Blade is in a fair state of polish with defects noted. This is a most attractive tanto and presents very well.
