A Good Civil War Rogers & Spencer Percussion Army Revolver Serial Number 1368.
7 and 1/2 inch octagonal barrel. .44 caliber. One of 5001 made for the Union Army military inspected but never issued the Rogers and Spencer is considered the best made of all Civil War revolvers which is why these are highly prized by English and European blackpowder shooters.
This example is a fine one with much original bluing on barrel and frame mixing with even age brown. Cylinder with even age brown as the bluing has flaked. “H” inspector’s stamp on frame and barrel. Matching numbers, Loading level and hammer with fading visible casehardening, Original walnut grips with good inspector’s cartouche and several chips at rear of left panel characteristic of the swelled concave nature of the Rogers and Spencer grips. The action is crisp and the bore is good.
Altogether an above average example of this popular Civil War revolver.
