A Very Fine Early 18th Century Long Italian Flintlock Holster Pistol With Ripoll Barrel Signed Coma Circa 1715.
13 and 1/2 inch half round half octagonal “Spanish” for barrel. 62 caliber smoothbore. Breech with sunken maker’s stamp “COMA”. The barrel decorated with fine gold Damascening of Arabic origin with elaborate calligraphic panel. Finely engraved stepped gilt brass lock plate. Engraved swan neck iron hammer and finely molded frizzen, Full engraved brass mounts including solid gilt brass side plate, elaborate triggerguard, and high relief thumb piece with shell design. Heavy spurred “skull crusher” buttcap.
Beautiful raised carved Circassian walnut fullstock with pronounced “tiger striping” throughout. Steel condition is fine to excellent throughout. Brass retaining some original gilding especially on lock and side plate. Stock is excellent with superb color and hand patination. Action is strong on both half and full cock. 20 and 1/2 inches overall. Bore is fair, The ramrod is short.
This is an extremely handsome long flintlock pistol with unusual and most attractive Ottoman gold Damascening on the barrel.
