A True Near Mint Condition Original Rogers & Spencer Civil War Army Revolver Serial Number 1377 All Matching.
7 and 1/2 inch octagonal barrel. .44. caliber. Estimated total 5000 ordered by U.S. Ordnance. They were delivered and martially inspected but no record of issue exists.
In 1901 Frances Bannerman purchased the entire lot. Most of the existing Rogers & Spencer’s are in fine condition but the bluing is usually flaked. Serial 1377 has 99% bright blue on the barrel. The lever retains 99% of the original dark case coloring with some vividly. The cylinder retains 97% bright bluing with extremely minor tracking marks and not a complete line as is usually the case. The frame retains 99+ % brilliant bluing with no flaking.
The hammer case colors have faded but are present. The walnut grips are not oil soaked as most are with perfect inspector’s cartouche on left panel. These is a minor chip from the right panel which is the only defect apart from some minor wear to extreme butt and two very minor chips (see images).
This is a brilliant Rogers & Spencer. The only equivalent example we have found was sold at a major auction for over 8000 dollars. The bore is as one would expect as new and the revolver is unfired. As good as Rogers and Spencers get.
