A Very Rare And Genuine Original Confederate Second Type Richmond Armory Sharps Saddle Ring Carbine Serial Number 4881 for 1864.
21 and 1/2 inch round barrel. The S.C. Robinson manufactory was purchased by the Confederate government in March of 1863 and production was continued without the Robinson markings. Therefore serial 4881 a Confederate government produced saddle ring carbine. These all saw hard service and most are relics. Numbers match on bottom of barrel, lock and breech tang. Barrel marked with two letters of the “RICHMOND VA” remaining of the address.
This very rare Confederate SRC is in good original condition. The correct Confederate breechblock is unmarked as is proper. The iron and steel is patinated and very attractive. The wood shows heavy use and careful wear with a thick coat of varnish. These is one expertly executed repair to the butt on the right side of the top frame tang. Mechanically fine on both half and full cock. Bore has defined rifling with wear from firing.
This is a prize for the Civil War collector or anyone who collects rare percussion saddle ring carbines.
