A Splendid Indian Sword/Shamshir With Fine Gilt Bronze Horse Head Hilt Being Held By A Springing Tiger Forming The Knuckle-guard In Gilt Bronze Mounted Scabbard.

29 and 3/4 inch pattern welded Damascus shamshir blade with broad central fuller. The bronze hilt fully gilded cast and chased in the round with horse head and tiger, shield, and florals. This work of art sword retains its original fabric covered wood scabbard with elaborately pierced gilt bronze chape, middle mount (ring missing) and large ensuite locket. The pierced work of exceptional quality. The green velvet with wear expected on nearly 200 years of age and use.

The blade is clean with no corrosion and visible pattern. The animalier hilt retains most of its original bright gilding. Though not one of Tipu Sultan’s swords this beautiful sword is reminiscent of his splendor and love of tigers. One of the most attractive Indian swords it has been our pleasure to offer to our valued Islamic collectors in some time.

We urge you to consider adding it to your collection as it is very nearly museum quality and at a most attractive price.
