An Extremely Long Rare Early 17th Century European Swept Hilt Rapier With long 43 inch blade and beautiful complex hilt.
The double edged diamond shape blade with short central fuller struck on each side with a cross and orb mark is 1 inch wide at the ricasso.
The guard is finely forged with large ring and plate handguard held by two screws and pierced with three leaf motifs. Heavy urn shape pommel with chiseled relief diamond decoration. Fine twisted wire wrapped grip with Turk’s Heads.
Condition of blade and hilt is patinated steel. Sword appears to have never been dismounted and balances perfectly despite its great length. Probably Italian. Genuine early 17th Century rapiers rarely appear on the collectors’ market.
