A Rare And Unusual Pair Of English Brass Barrel And Frame Silver Mounted Turn Off “Queen Ann” Style Sidelock Flintlock Greatcoat Pistols By Daniel Moore, London Circa 1767 (24 Fenchurch Street).
6 inch round two stage brass barrels with cannon muzzles. .60 caliber smoothbore. Barrels engraved at breeches, full London gunmaker’s proofs, signed “D. MOORE”. Barrels and frames numbered 1 and 2. Plain swan-neck cocks line engraved frizzens. Brass trigger guards engraved with a flower. Silver grotesque mask buttcaps. Pierced, cast and chased silver side plates. Finely figured walnut butts carved with shell design behind the engraved steel barrel tangs. All lock parts are original. Lovely vacant silver shell thumb pieces with unusual grotesque mask.
Pistols show careful use but no abuse overall and are all original throughout. Brass “Queen Ann” flintlock pistols are highly unusual and this pair by the well known maker Daniel Moore are something to see. Actions are good and bores are as well. 11 and 1/4 inches overall. If you like 18th century silver mounted English flintlock pistols that are uncommon and visually far more appealing than steel examples do not miss out on these.
