A Beautiful Iron Mounted Shin Shinto Japanese Samurai Sword (Tanto) Circa 1855.
12 inch hira tsukuri blade with horimono consisting of one wide well cut hi on ur and double hi on omote. Suguha hamon, muji hada, Ubu mu mei nakago with one enlarged mekugi-ana. Copper habaki. Finely patinated iron tsuba decorated with gold cricket. Good gold decorated iron fuchi kashira, Fine gilt floral menuki. Attractive brown leather tsuka makie, Good “big eye” same.
Elaborate 11 and 1/2 inch long iron kojiri decorated with gold en suite with fuchi kashira. Red and black roiro lacquer saya. Iron kozuka. Blade is in fair polish with no kizu.
This is a handsome real samurai dagger (tanto) with really tasteful (shibui) iron mounts.
