An Extraordinarily Fine U.S. Model 1906 Steel Hilt Variant Replacement For The Model 1860 U.S. Saber.
An unusually fine example of this important United States Army saber by “AS Co.” with flaming bomb proof and dated 1906 on the right side of the ricasso. The left side stamped “U.S.” and military inspector’s stamp “JC”. The blade with minor staining throughout its length but no chips and no pitting with some brightness.
The hilt is remarkable and retains 70% of its genuine period Japanned lacquer finish. Guard marked 49. The grip is in excellent condition. The scabbard exhibits nearly 95% of its original blue finish and no dents.
Altogether the finest condition example of this uncommon U.S. saber. A must have for any U.S. military edged weapons collection.
