A Very Rare And Superb Brass Mounted And Decorated Late 18th Century Mexican Miquelet Belt Pistol Dated 1791.
7 and 1/4 inch Spanish form barrel, 70 caliber. Barrel with 9 gold filled stamps, gold cross, and gold horse. Finely engraved barrel tang. The patella lock deeply chiseled with exotic long tailed bird, the pan body chiseled in relief with an indigenous Mayan or Aztec warrior. The frizzen face relief chiseled with an indigenous woman carrying a bundle.
Brass mounts elaborately pierced and engraved with birds and strap work. The fore-end mount deeply repousse decorated with naked indigenous ladies. The triggerguard repousse decorated with a an indigenous warrior. Beautiful pierced and engraved buttcap. Finely forged and pierced belt hook is inlaid with brass engraved in a chevron pattern. Lock is in excellent condition with little wear. Barrel with light wear and some freckling.
Walnut fullstock with line decoration in fine condition. Action is excellent on both half and full cock. Bore is good. 12 and 1/2 inches overall. This is truly a museum quality Mexican miquelet pistol and will please the most sophisticated collector of high art pistols of the 18th century.
