A Large And Attractive “Qajar” Enamel Khanjar Circa 1880 The Entire Surface Covered With Portraits Of Qajar Courtly Figures Florals And A Lion Devouring A Deer.
The 11 and 3/4 inch curved blade with medial ridge entirely decorated with etched Koranic verses, the forte with helmeted warriors. The steel enameled hilt of classic khanjar form. Condition is remarkable with only minor losses and brilliant colors to the portraits.
This most impressive dagger is 18 and 3/8th inches overall. Qajar daggers routinely sell at major English Islamic Art auctions for five figures. As this example is rather atypical in its tan enamel background it is very attractively prices.
