A Good Incise Carved Lebanon County Pennsylvania Flintlock Kentucky Rifle By Henry Schultz Circa 1820.

43 and 1/2 inch octagonal barrel with original rear and partridge front sights. Boldly signed “H. Shultz” on top flat. Stepped, bolted flintlock lock is a fine quality reconversion. Full classic “Kentucky” brass furniture including characteristic scalloped border fine “Lebabon County” patchbox.

Truly lovely “tiger striped” maple fullstock of particularly elegant form, almost a “Roman nose” butt. The left side of the butt with elegant incise carving running along the cheekpiece almost to the sideplate. The barrel has been bored. The stock with rich patina throughout and several superb executed splices (do not detract) . The barrel with good honest wear.

This is a beautiful carved Pennsylvania rifle that would grace anyone's colonial fireplace. Stockel mistakenly dates Henry Shultz as working in 1861 however obviously this is an 1820 period Kentucky. This fine gun measures 58 and 3/4 inches in overall length. Looks better than similar rifles priced at double.
