A Splendid Handachi Mounted Shin Shinto Japanese Samurai Sword Ko-Tachi Signed And Dated By The Renowned Chikuzen Yukihide (100 Points In Nihon To Meikan).

24 inch, 2 shaku shinogi tsukuri blade. Thick beautiful suguha hamon with ashi extending almost to the ha itself. Ultra tight itame almost nashiji hada. The blade in almost full old sashikomi polish with no kizu, the lovely polishing lines bespeak the superb quality of the polish. Gilt copper habaki.

Excellent ubu nakago with fine kesho yasuri, one mekugi ana. Fine chocolate brown patina of the mid 19th century. Castellated silver foil wrapped sepia. Heavy lobate iron tsuba with relief hornet and silver highlights. Fine handachi style dark shakudo nanako fuchi kashira in fine condition. Excellent large dark shakudo dragon menuki well detailed with gilt tails and whiskers. Superb handachi mounted red lacquer tree bark saya with black and gold highlights. Shakudo nanako kurikata.

All mounts ensuite of a quality commensurate with the blade. Fine same under the green silk tsuka makie. Altogether a wonderful tachi by one of late Edo Japan’s most revered swordmakers.
