A Very Fine And Desirable Best Quality Cased Set Of Half Stock British Flintlock Dueling Pistols Converted To Percussion By The Renowned John Blanch (1825-1849 at 29 Gracechurch Street, London) The Whole Preserved In Pristine Condition Throughout.
9 inch fine bribed .62 caliber smoothbore Damascus barrels engraved “London” retain nearly 100% beautiful lacquer brown. Finely engraved casehardened breeches with double gold lines, Finely engraved breech tangs with rear sight. Bolted, casehardened locks with stepped tails and push-on safeties. Locks are finely engraved and signed “BLANCH”. Hammers engraved ensuite. Locks and hammers retain nearly 100% darkened case colors.
These lovely duelers were doubtless converted by John Blanch and he used a highly sophisticated drum stye conversion with a platinum blow-out plug, a refinement rarely if ever seen on flintlock conversions. Spurred steel trigger guards are superbly engraved with trophy of arms and pineapple finials and retain nearly 100% of the original bright niter (‘peacock’) bluing. Silver barrel wedge escutcheon, horn for-end caps, rear ramrod thimbles blued and forward thimbles browned. Set triggers. Figured walnut half stocks are finely checkered at wrist and show nearly all their original high-polish varnish (minor marks throughout). These wonderful pistols each retain their original brass trumpet tipped ramrods.
Pistols are cased in their original walnut case with brass disc in lid. Beautiful original John Blanch trade label in lid with full engraved arms of Great Britain, Lion and Unicorn Dieu et Mon Droit and Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense. Accessories include a superb “3-way” powder flask retaining nearly 100% of its gilding and lacquer finish (one minor dent), ebony handle nipple wrench, original rosewood brass tipped ramrod, original crisp bullet mold, ivory compartment handles, original wads, and cap tin. The interior of green baize in exceptionally fine condition throughout. The actions are excellent on both full and half cock and both bores are like mirrors.
One of the very finest set of English dueling pistols it is the Armory’s distinct pleasure to offer to our most discerning collectors.
