A Good Cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver With Scarce 5 Inch Barrel Serial Number 53568 For 1852.
5 inch octagonal barrel. .31 caliber 5 shot cylinder. Revolver is all marching including wedge. 2 line New York barrel address. Barrel with no finish but sharp edges, crisp address, and no pitting. Finish appears to have merely drifted as there is little wear, Bore is fair to good. Cylinder with no finish but very good stagecoach hold-up scene. Pin safeties are worn, Frame with nickeled out casehardening and no pitting. Frame screws are good. Brass backstrap and triggerguard with some silver remaining but unpolished and retaining a pleasing patina.
Fine walnut grip retains 95%+ original varnish with only one very minor mark, Action is crisp and cylinder locks up tight. This nice early Colt ’49 is cased in a period Colt type mahogany case with marquetry inlaid border and Hepplewhite style urn inlay in a reserve. Interior of case lined in wine red cloth (faded and worn). Case appears to be correct.
Accessories include Colt’s Patent marked mold in fait condition, japanned Ely cap tin, original fine blued nipple wrench/screwdriver retaining 80% niter blue, and fine eagle powder flask, retaining 95% original finish on body, spout with traces of gilding, and blued spring.
Altogether a very pleasing original cased Model 1849.
