Fine American Civil War Model 1840 Enlisted Mounted Artillery Saber made by the Ames Mfg. Co., Chicopee, Mass. in 1864.
Ricasso marked with U.S. stamp, inspector initials JH and the date 1864.
Ames markings are faint from the typical light strike. Blade is bright with only a few very minor nicks. Hilt is excellent with intact leather and wire binding. Steel scabbard has been cleaned, showing scattered patches of staining and only one shallow ding.
Overall, a solid above average example of this popular saber. Length in scabbard 39", blade length 32".
