A Fine Civil War Remington Zouave Rifle Circa 1865.
33 inch barrel. .58 caliber. 7 groove rifled barrel. Only 12,501 manufactured by Remington’s Illion, New York. The 1863 Contract Rifle or “Zouave” is the handsomest and best made Civil War long gun rivaling the 1841 Mississippi in attractiveness with its deeply blued barrel, dark walnut stock and bright brass mounts and patchbox.
This Zouave has nearly all the original bluing on the barrel with very minor staining at breech. The lock with fading color casehardening. The stock is full dimension with two military inspector’s cartouches. The brass patchbox still retains the extra nipple. The bore is mint.
A truly mint Zouave is now a $6000+ rifle. Buy this 90% beauty for less than half and much and it will provide just as much enjoyment and pride of ownership.
