A Late But Really Great Spanish Main Gauche Dagger Circa 1780-1840.
Very finely forged 16 and 3/8th inch diamond shaped blade with the classic Spanish notches in the spine, pierced with circles, and struck on each side on the ricasso with two maker’s marks. Characteristic oval dish for the thumb on the left flat. Finely forged “sail” guard with long trumpet end quillions exhibiting forging lines. Wood grip wrapped with twisted steel wire. Onion shaped main gauche pommel.
A late but no less attractive and desirable example of this scarce and most identifiable of European daggers. In very fine original homogenous condition overall. From a prominent old East Coast collection.
