A Fine And Large Pair Of Empire Period French Officer’s Flintlock Pistols With Turn Off Barrels By Faure A Valence Circa 1805.
9 and 3/8th inch plain round turn off barrels with cannon muzzles. Large .58 caliber bores. Molded breeches. Plain flat well shaped Boutet style locks with elegant swan neck cocks signed “Faure a Valence”. Rain proof pans, roller bearing frizzens. Austere Empire steel mounts, flat stepped steel buttcaps with in classic Empire style.
Carved and figured walnut half sticks finely checkered at the wrist and carved behind breech tangs. Steel surfaces polished bright in the European manner. Stocks are excellent. Actions are crisp as new. Microgroove rifled bores are very good. Barrels off for breechloading.
These are large (15 and 1/2 inches) and very finely made, elegant Napoleonic period officer’s pistols of Boutet or LePage quality designed for use on the battlefield’s of Europe and not just for show.
