A Good Model 1867 Spencer Military Rifle Serial Number 96481.
30 inch round barrel. .50 caliber. A reasonably scarce U.S. military repeating rifle with only 7000 manufactured with serial numbers in the 91000 to 100100 range. This one falls right in the range.
Barrel is smooth metal with bluing faded to brown. The frame with faded case colors mostly nickeled out. Some bluing remaining on tang. Lever smooth outside but with some visible casehardening on block. Buttplate with some light storage corrosion. Loader is in good condition.
Walnut stock with the usual dents from military use and storage but very sound with some varnish and no cracks. Stamped with military “B” and rack numbers “16”. Bore is very good with some corrosion on the lands near the muzzle. Action is excellent and cocking powerful on full and half cock.
A far above average military Spencer musket.
