Very Fine Pair Of Italian Brescian Flintlock Carriage Pistols Signed “L. Zugno”

The 8 and 1/8th inch barrels of “Spanish” form, half round and half octagonal with sunken maker’s mark filled with a brass rampant horse and three crosses. Brass foresight. .46 caliber.

Beveled bolted lock with line engraving and lightly chiseled at tail signed “L. Zugno”. Hammer and frizzen engraved ensuite. Full elaborate brass mounts comprising long rare ramrod pipe engraved with finial, cast and chased triggerguard with elaborate acanthus finials and further relief acanthus on triggerguard bow, finely cast and molded spurred buttcaps and beautiful relief molded side plates.

Light walnut full stocks relief carved throughout bordering the triggerguard. Both pistols retain their original horn tipped rods. All lock parts are original to the pistols. Condition overall is very fine to excellent with great wood and the mounts showing little wear. Actions are crisp on both half and full cock and mores are fine. 13 and 1/4 inches overall.

This is a very handsome pair of 18th century Brescian pistols by a well known gunmaker and in remarkable condition.
